Google's Major Mistake

Google Cloud accidentally deleted all data of a company named UniSuper. More than half a million UniSuper subscribers noticed that they couldn't access their accounts due to a 'unique event' caused by a Google Cloud 'discrepancy'. According to a joint statement from Google and UniSuper, all data of the company was deleted. Following this incident, both the company's CEO and the global CEO of Google Cloud issued a deep apology for the situation.

UniSuper announced that it has started to rectify its services. It was stated that the system had been offline for over a week. Investment accounts were showing data from the previous week, but UniSuper assured that these errors would be corrected as soon as possible and that real data would be visible in the accounts.

UniSuper CEO Peter Chun and Google Cloud Global CEO Thomas Kurian issued a joint statement clarifying that the issue was not caused by a cyberattack and that the data of 620,000 users was safe. Kurian apologized for the problems experienced, calling the issue 'incredibly disruptive and upsetting.'

As for the cause of the problem, the Google Cloud CEO stated that a series of consecutive misconfigurations led to the deletion of UniSuper's Private Cloud subscription. Kurian noted that this situation resulted from 'a unique sequence of events.'

The statement emphasized that this situation was unprecedented for any global cloud service user. UniSuper, which manages $125 billion, explained that they were using backups stored on another server
